The Kashagan oil field, in the North West Caspian Sea (Kazakhstan), has been one of the major discoveries in the past 20 years.

Phase 1 develops the infrastructure needs of the Construction Phase (Early works, Permanent Camp & Utility facilities) both onshore and offshore (floating barges).

The Telecommunications, Instrumentation, Safety, F&G and other ancillary Systems have been awarded to General Dynamics Mission Systems–Italy, comprised of:

Security Systems

  • Access control equipped with Smart Cards
  • Digital CCTV system provided with cameras for surveillance and process monitoring

Safety Systems

  • PA and GA equipped with three main nodes and about 600 speakers
  • Instrument Control and Indication System
  • Fire and gas detection system
  • Very Early Smoke Detection and Acquisition (VESDA)
  • Meteorological system

Telecommunications System

  • Digital (ISDN) PABX and Telephone Instruments (field instruments, analogue and digital phones)
  • Structured cabling and LAN cabinets
  • LAN active components (switches and routers)
  • SDH – STM1 Microwave Link (155 Mbs)
  • TETRA (UHF) Digital Radio System
  • VHF Ground-to-Air Radio
  • Integrated NMS able to monitor all the elements of the network (based on HPOpen View and provided with SNMP enabled I/O modules)


  • MW and Radio (TETRA) Tower
  • Shelters with UPS and battery
